What to do On A Saturday??

It's Saturday and I have nothing to do today:( I could clean my house or do laundry but honestly I worked all week and really have no ambition to do anything at all really. I never did fill everyone in on the horrid thing that occurred on Tuesday on the way home from Leigha's appointment tho. We were driving home on the highway...now i should explain a bit here. If you are familiar with Alberta (who isn't unless you don't watch the news in either country Canada or US) then you probably know that we live in the Heartland ... I think I mentioned it as well during the fires that were blazing in the spring. So we have a lot of heavy truck traffic going to and from the refineries here in town and North to Fort McMurray. We have a lot of the big names in Oil and Gas here in town: DOW chemical, SunCore etc. I'll proceed now that you get the jist. So I was merrily driving the kids and I home on the highway and had been glancing in the rear view mirror at Ryan as he had asked me a question as I looked back down at the highway I noted that the very large very ugly two box gravel truck in front of me had something large and black drop off the back of his truck and hit the highway in front of me. I only had a split second to note this and swerve. Thank GOD there was no one beside me as I hit whatever it was with the passenger tire and lost control of the van, as I was swerving across the two lane highway I managed to get control of the van and headed into the right shoulder and parked. My heart was frantic and the kids were silent...for once:o As I got a hold of myself I managed to get the courage to get out of the van and onto the highway to inspect the damage to the van, I was pretty sure I had blown the tire on the front passenger side. As I went to the passenger side of the van I was SOOO not prepared to see this as well as the blown out white wall of the front tire of my van...

This is just under the passanger side door, apparently from what we can determine I drove over the "thing" with the passenger front tire and it flew alongside the van gouging this lovely hole into my van.

Shaking like a leaf I got back into the van and frantically tried to call Neil whom I had just seen not 15mins earlier when I had dropped coffee off for him and his apprentice at the job site. I knew he was on the phone to Chattanooga Tennessee trying to get the asphalt plant working again (it had blown something the day before and he was a bit ticked) usually if I call repeatedly and he knows it's an emergency. When he didn't pick it up I tried Caughleigh, her line was busy:o So I'm sitting on the highway with 3 kids and having traffic fly by me at 120km/h and no one stops..of course. I tried my MIL and thank GOD she happened to be in town working. You see I happened to have this happen not even 5 mins from the outside limits of town. Crappy hey?

She knew as soon as she answered that something was wrong and was on her way to get us. I managed to get a hold of Caughleigh and she headed in as well. Then I finally managed to get a hold of Neil and broke down a bit from the stress of it all. I was so thankful that I hadn't had anything else more happen when I had hit whatever it was. So I waited on the highway for my MIL and once she arrived we tag teamed the kids into the vehicle she borrowed since all of the spare vehicles we own, ( we have 3 vans and 2 cars between the 2 houses that we all share between us all...shocking isn't it, and 3 of the vehicles were out of service on that day and in for repair if you included my van now) were now in the repair shop in town, and drove us home while arranging for a tow for my van to said repair shop:( I somehow managed to pull myself together and go in for my shift at home care for 4 hours albeit later than planned once Neil got home from work early. The damage on the van wasn't as extensive as we had thought apart from the tear and the blown tire:o That's bad enough really but it could have been worse at 110km/h and hitting something off a truck in front of you. Neil never did find anything in the ditch where I was and all I could remember was that it was black and looked like a tire jack. It happened too fast and really I don't care anyway as long as the kids were okay and I was in one piece, vans can be fixed, kids can't. So now I am trapped at home as I can't leave town with the van and the other ones are still in the shop. Turns out the doughnut we had has a rip in the white wall too so I can't use it on the highway:( Which brings me to the topic of what to do on a Saturday?? I think I should maybe bite the bullet and try my hand at sewing some curtains for the trailer...I'll let you know how that works out, wish me luck hey. I'd just like to thank all of you for leaving the uplifting comments. It helps me get through all of this with Leigha. Part of the reason I started writing this blog was a way to put my feelings into words and get them out of my head. Having people out there able to empathise with me in even a small way makes this uphill battle seem easier to bear. There are no words to say how much I do appreciate it.
